Protests in Sweden stand against Israel plans to annex West Bank

(MENAFN) Large crowds assembled in the Swedish capital on Saturday to voice opposition to Israel’s policies toward Palestinian territories, criticizing both its disregard for the Gaza ceasefire and its intentions regarding the occupied West Bank. Demonstrators expressed anger over recent developments by chanting slogans including “Free Palestine,” “Murderer Israel, get out of Palestine,” and “No to the annexation of the West Bank.”

Responding to appeals from various civil society groups, participants convened at Odenplan Square before marching toward the Swedish Parliament. Along the route, they displayed placards carrying messages such as "Israel is not complying with the ceasefire," "Stop the genocide," and "Palestine forever." The protest emphasized calls for peace while strongly condemning the policies of the Israeli government.

‘Babies are freezing to death’

During the rally, Swedish activist Malin Akerstrom addressed the worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza, warning that winter weather has deepened the crisis and transformed it into a full-scale catastrophe. She urged the international community to intervene, arguing that conditions on the ground are declining by the day and describing the overall situation as a "genocide."

Akerstrom further stated that the global public is being misled into thinking a truce is in effect, despite ongoing attacks on Gaza and the reality that “babies are freezing to death.”

Separately, reports indicate that over 100 members of Sweden’s parliament have demanded concrete measures to curb violence targeting Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Their concerns were formally communicated in a letter addressed to Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard.

According to a statement issued on behalf of the lawmakers, the escalation of violence by illegal Israeli settlers in the West Bank has become increasingly pronounced in recent years, unfolding alongside the continuing genocide in Gaza.
